Hillary and I were blessed to attend the wedding of Ian & Gretchen Hartsook last Saturday. It was an honor for me to be able to participate in the service. I shared two scripture readings: one from Genesis 2:18-23, and the other from Ephesians 5:18b-33.
It was a beautiful service. A Christian wedding is not just a celebration but also a worship service, designed to honor God and consecrate the new marriage. It was very well done, and it was great to see the Hartsook family in full form. In the personalized vows Gretchen described the marriage as not just a new chapter, but a new book. That day got the book off to a great start.
Below are some of the pictures I took. I apologize for their limitations. I'm not a very good wedding photographer, but they do capture some of the good memories from the day...
After the wedding the couple was joined by the best dog, Finnegan -- dressed in his own tux. Then we had a celebration at the KSU Union. Even though I came in my KU hat, they treated me well -- even bringing out vegetarian food.
Both our church and the Emporia community were well-represented that day. Another enjoyable feature: Gretchen designed a special weight-lifting wedding cake to surprise Ian. Here are some of the pictures I took...
Praise God for the gift and beauty of a new marriage! Let's pray for the new couple as their book develops and their story evolves.
